Delighted to share that this week XPManager, born here at INEX, has reached the remarkable achievement of Powering Peering at more than 250 Internet Exchange Points around the world.
What began as an internal project to help INEX operate a robust, resilient and efficient network has grown into a global platform that is facilitating the interconnection of 13,500 networks at IXPs around the world. IXP Manager has enabled INEX to cost-effectively grow our infrastructure, membership and traffic while steadily strengthening the security and reliability that our members rely on, creating global best practices along the way.

This achievement highlights the dedication of the team, but in particular Nick Hilliard and Barry O’Donovan, whose work is recognised internationally as defining excellence in this area across the global Internet community. Their clarity of purpose and commitment to IXP Manager’s core mission of facilitating and managing interconnection have been unwavering since its first days nearly 20 years ago.
The internet has many examples of excellent open-source software enabling networks and organisations, but IXP Manager stands out as a platform that helps local Internet communities democratise interconnection. In many regions, particularly in cities and countries with limited internet engineering and financial resources, IXP Manager enables the creation and operation of independent, resilient interconnection points that might otherwise struggle to exist.

Their commitment makes the project possible and as users, INEX and its members, continue to benefit directly from their support of IXP Manager not only in terms of functionality and resilience but also facilitating the lower cost of operating the peering infrastructure
