[ixpmanager] update-l2database.pl

So the switch name field is really supposed to be a hostname? 

There are no DNS entries for any infrastructure at this time. Didn't really plan on it either, however, if it is required, then I suppose I'll change my plans.

hostname lookup failures.

that's correct. those two fields will be amalgamated in a future release. 
Make sure you have DNS set up for the entries in the "name" field.
